How to match jewellery with your outfit

Your outfit can go from blah to glamorous with the right jewellery. The wrong kind of jewellery can make you look basic or boring.

So, it is kind of essential that you match your jewellery to elevate your outfit. Not sure how to do it? This guide will teach you in minutes how you can match your jewellery with your outfit.

5 things to remember:

1. Jewellery that you will wear all the time: For engaged and married women, it is common to wear engagement and wedding rings all the time. So, how do you make sure your jewellery doesn’t clash with your outfit? Try sticking to classic cushion cut engagement rings or rings with solitaires. They go with absolutely everything. An extravagant ring, on the other hand, demands an extravagant dress to go with it. So, you choose to leave your engagement ring and only don your wedding band when you want to wear a somber look.

2. Choose the right scale of jewellery: Let’s say you’re sporting some of the latest gold drop earring designs but they are extremely small. Your jewellery is going to get lost because of their small size but on the other hand if they are too chunky, they can look sloppy. If your dress is monocoloured, you can go for a larger pair of earrings and make the center of attention. If you are wearing something with a busy pattern or two different colours at the very least, choose studs instead.

3. Choose the right colour: You might like some trending rose gold earring designs but do they match your outfit? It is important to match the colour of our outfit with the colour in your jewellery to create a cohesive look. This is a general rule. You can obviously choose contrasting colours if they match your outfit too. You need to study the colour wheel for this. You can wear jewellery if the colour of your jewellery and your dress are either on the same side of the wheel or on the opposite ends. Gold and silver go with just about anything. So, if you don’t want to study colour theory, stick to gold and silver.

4. Create a personal style: Do you like small studs or big hoops? Geometric patterns or simple, classic designs? What you like will also determine what type of jewellery will match your outfit. Some people can carry an attire that most people might find too vibrant whereas others prefer a simple look. But, if you’re unsure of the etiquette, here are some general rules:

  • Wear studs to the office and limit your jewellery pieces to 3
  • For classic elegance, wear diamonds or pearls
  • For date nights, you can wear a nice necklace with a pendant and studs
  • For parties, you can wear chokers and bracelets.

Less is more: After you’re done dressing up, remove one accessory from your attire. This rule will never fail you. If you are wearing earrings, necklace, bracelets and a watch. Remove one piece to balance out the whole look.
