Aam Dal

Ok guys, let me say Sorry first not posting any recipe for a long time. With 7 months old baby boy it's really tough to get any time. But I had to get time and post this family recipe of 'Aam Dal', as it's summer after all. Aam Dal is very famous Dal recipe in Bengal, it's cooked with Raw Mango and serve with 'Steamed Rice' & 'Aloo Bhaja'(potato fry). It should be sour in taste. The sourness comes from the Raw Mango. This is exclusively my mom's recipe, I think she makes the best 'Aam dal'. Let's see the recipe below.

Ingredients for Aam Dal

Preperation steps for Aam Dal

Take the both Masoor and Moong dal in a bowl, wash under tap water and soak it in water for 30 minutes, now take the dal and pressure cook it up to 2 whistles with a generous amount of water.

The dal should be boiled enough.

Now Add the Raw Mango to the pressure cooker and again pressure cook it up to 1 whistle.

Take a wok, heat the mustard oil, and temper the oil with whole red chilies and mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds start splattering, add the boiled dal into the wok along with the raw mango. Add turmeric powder, salt, and sugar, cover the wok, simmer the heat, and let the dal boil for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes, turn off the heat. Check the salt and sugar, if need more, add them now.

Serve the 'Aam Dal' with steamed rice and aloo bhaja.
